Interesting Question

Asked by:  V.G.Fernando, from Sri Lanka

Original e-mail:

"I am interested in learning to play the guitar would appriciate if you could lessons. I am an absolute beginer and I want to know whetehr there is a corelation between the lengts of the finger and the ability to play well."

Hey vajira, to answer your question about the finger length. No, there is not a direct correlation between the length of one's fingers and the ability to play well. How do I know? I have very fat short fingers myself and I have the ability and potential to play just as good as anyone. And so can you. But keep in mind that it may take just a little more effort for you than it would for a "long fingered" person. But don't get discouraged, I promise you if you really have a true passion for the guitar then that is ALL you need ;) I can honestly promise you that. Just think, there are people out there missing a whole hand that have learned to play very well so there is your proof and your encouragement.

Thanks to V.G.Fernando for this question and everyone who sends me their guitar queries.

Sincerely,

JM Brown Instructor/Admin
