Before we begin with the warm-up: Playing your guitar can be thought of as a work out of sorts. The first thing that you should do when working out is stretching. I know, it may sound like overkill to some of you out there but believe me it WILL make a difference. Stretching and massaging your fingers and hands, as well as your wrists and arms get the blood pumping to the places where you need it the most. This allows you to move with far more ease, and with less chance of injuring your fingers and wrist due to repetitive movement injuries, like Carpel Tunnel.
First you want to massage each individual finger on both hands. Just start at the bottom of the finger and move to the tip. then move on to the next finger. Make sure to massage fingers on both hands. Now we'll stretch the wrists. Push the tips of your fingers back toward the top of your fore arm. Hold this for about 10 seconds. DO NOT over do it. Just push them back as far as it feels comfortable, we just want to stretch the wrists, not break them. Do this for both hands. Then place one hand on top of the other and push the hand down, toward the bottom of the forearm. Hold this stretch for about 10 seconds. Again, only push as far as it feels comfy. Do this for both hands. Now we'll just massage those wrists. Massage them good. Stretch your arms by putting your hand behind your head and push your elbow back. Or any other stretches you like. Now you're ready to play!
Warm-ups with the major scale: This warm up we will play with the first 5 notes of the major scale. We'll start out with the G maj. scale and end on B Maj. scale.
