Arpeggio:

The definition for an arpeggio is simply the playing of the notes of a chord separately instead of all at once.

Ironically the definition is among the simplest, yet the technique can be one of the hardest to master, at least in the terms of lead guitar.

There is a difference however in arpeggiating a chord, simply fingering a chord and playing the notes separately, and playing an arpeggio. An arpeggio in lead guitar is much more like a scale than like a chord, although it does consist of notes from a specific chord.
