Guitar Speed Building Exercises

Before we begin I must point out that if you do not warm up and stretch before you continue it's possible you could hurt yourself. So warm up first as you don't want to cause any permanent damage. Massage your fingers and stretch your wrists and arms.

Exercise 1 below is a fairly simple way to start building your speed. Easy to learn and kind of fun to play. This exercise is just 3 notes/string and incorporates your index, middle, and ring fingers. Also try this with your middle, ring, and pinky fingers too. In order to build speed you'll want to use alternate picking with all of these examples and is recommended you alternate pick every chance you get. Use a metronome if you have one..infact I believe there are free software metronomes out there. Google it.

Exercise 1:

----------------------------
----------------------------
----------------------------
-------------------5-6-7----
-------5-6-7-5-6-7----------
-5-6-7----------------------

Below on exercise 3: Fingering = Low E, B and High E string (the 5 - 8 configuration) use your index and pinky finger. Everything else (the 5 - 7 config) use your index and ring finger.
