| Song Building Minor Pentatonic Soloing A good tip: When building a song remember that not all notes have to be played by the same guitar. In fact sometimes, especially when playing with distortion the notes clash. This is because of the dissonance of the intervals. To put it plainly some notes cancel each other out when played on the same guitar. Remedy: Use two guitars, or a guitar and a keyboard or any two instruments that sound good together and play the notes separately. For example say you want to play a form of Bm chord |------| |------| |-6----| |-9----| |-9----| |-7----| It sounds good clean - PLAY Not Good Distorted - PLAY
So we just play the notes separately when distorted First guitar plays this :
Notice how it opened up the space in the chord. Gave it a real mood. This is a trick you can use, whether playing live or recording. You will especially want to use this while recording though as it contributes greatly to the atmosphere and the mood of the song.
