Scales    Modes    Alternate Picking    Fret Tapping    Sweep Picking    The Circle of 5ths   Theory Lesson

Scales and Modes help you to play consistently, fiercely, precise, and with knowledge, but not without practice!

So here we go. This will be a work in progress as it will take quite some time to complete so check back often to see the updated contents.

We will start by going thru each scale. Some examples of these are in the beginner and intermediate section as well. Remember that the patterns can be moved for whatever key you'd like by simply moving the starting note or 'root' note.

Scales and relevance
Major Scale- The first scale everyone should learn. It is a good warm up scale, but more importantly
it's where all music theory starts. There are seven notes before the root note starts again.
Learn this scale for it is the key to all. Seriously.

Minor Pentatonic- Probably the most used scale in association with rock/blues music and Solos. There
are 5 notes before root note starts again.

Blues Scale- Obviously this scale is used in blues, however it is used in all genres of music. This scale is
the minor pentatonic with an added note, referred to as the "blue" note. This is the only scale named
after a musical style. Sorry there are no "hard rock" scales or "country" scales. The more you learn the better
you'll be able to play in YOUR style.

Major Pentatonic- Used mainly to solo over major chords and keys although usually works well over Power Chords.
This scale can be used in conjunction with any of the others for a good simple "solid" preparation.
Experiment with this and others to see how it works for you.

Minor Scale- Usually used to solo over minor chords and keys although usually works extremely
well over power chords. Probably one of the widest used scales especially in rock and blues.
