Guitar Parts illustration Glossary of Terms Equipment Dictionary Palm Muting: A Technique where the palm of the picking hand is used to stop the string or strings from ringing out. If distortion is used palm muting allows the guitar to get that deep "crunchy" sound while playing a chord (works great with power chords). Palm muting is also great in lead guitar because it allows precise control which comes thru in the sound as being laser precise whether using distortion or playing clean or acoustically. This technique would be one to master, especially if you are in to rock, and especially Hard rock and Metal. Although almost every other music style has used this in many instances. *Tip: The Best way to palm mute is to put the side of the hand directly on your bridge and let it hang over onto the strings. You should experiment to see what feels comfortable to you.
