Fret-Tapping is fun, and for simple stuff it's actually very easy.  I just want to warn you now, after you figure out how cool it sounds you'll probably want to do it every chance you get. Just be careful as it may drive people insane (unless you're mean like that and actually want to put someone in the funny farm then by all means do it to it).

The basic tap:

we'll start by just doing a 2 note tap. I'll actually explain this without tabs because it'll be easier for you, so pay attention.

using the pick for tapping:

fret the high e string 12th fret with your index finger.   with your index finger still on the 12th fret take your picking hand and with the side of the pick press into the 15th fret on the high e string and quickly take it back off. you'll see that this is kind of like a hammer on but with a whole different sound. now do that about 10 times real fast and you have yourself a really nice annoying sound.

For tapping with your finger follow the steps above but  instead of using the pick use your index finger or whatever finger feels right to you.

Here's how it should sound - PLAY

Now that you know the basics try putting your index finger on the 12th fret high e string, your ring finger on 15th fret high e string and tapping the 17th fret high e with your picking hand  and as you let off of the 17th fret pull off from 15 to 12 so you now have 3 notes.

it should sound like this - PLAY

Now go wild and move all around the fret board. Remember your scales, you could have fun with this.

for now I'll just give you an abstract example moving around the fret board.  - PLAY

Go in peace my friends, and amaze (or annoy) all who will listen.
